From his exclusion from the 1999 Giro d’Italia, because he was found with a too high hematocrit value before the Madonna di Campiglio stage, to his sudden death five years later on Valentine’s Day, when he was found alone, lying on the ground and chest naked in his room in a residence in Cesenatico. The descending parable of the “Pirate” is retraced in “The Pantani case: the murder of a champion”, the docu-drama premiered on TV8, Thursday 25 May, at 9.30 pm.
The story of Marco Pantani is reconstructed with an investigative character by the director Domenico Ciolfi in a film inevitably destined to be discussed. The result is an accurate and compelling reconstruction of the life of the Romagna champion, much loved by the public, which reveals unpublished details of his death.
To interpret the champion from Romagna, in the different phases of his life, there are Brenno Placido, Marco Palvetti and Fabrizio Rongione. To embellish the story there are also period images in which the real Pantani appears, who passes from the altar to the dust in a Manzoni style, raising a thousand question marks.
