The company effigas confirmed this Monday, May 22, that the provision of gas service in the departments of the Eje Cafetero was suspended: Risaralda, Caldas and Quindiodue to the contingency that has been registered since Saturday, May 20 in the Mariquita-Cali gas pipeline, due to the volcanic activity that is registered at the point of Cerro Bravo.

The decision was given after the hydrocarbon reserves to meet the demand of this region of the country, after the suspension of gas transportation due to overheating of said section, with temperatures exceeding 600 degrees Celsius.

“Regarding the event of force majeure declared by the International Gas Transporter (TGI), Efigas reports that since almost all of the gas that was stored in the transportation and distribution systems has already been consumed,” the company said.

Only in Pereira, a total of 162,380 users were left without gas supply, when the service was interrupted at 2:50 pm. While, in the neighboring municipality of Dosquebradas, which is part of the metropolitan area, 86,245 households were also affected by this situation in the neighboring municipality of Dosquebradas.

Homes and commercial establishments have had to resort to propane gas cylinders and other energy sources to solve this emergency.

“There will be a restriction on the natural gas service in the southwestern part of the country in the coming days, I would like to inform you that since we were notified by TGI about the affectation of the Mariquita-Cali gas pipeline, gases from the west It has advanced contingent actions such as the suspension of non-essential demand”, confirmed Néstor Carlos Consuegra, technical manager of the entity.
