Marcelo Grohe, the goalkeeper of Al-Ittihad Jeddah, is looking forward to continuing his distinguished numbers with his team in the Roshen Saudi Football League competition, and equalizing the record number of Al-Ettifaq and Al-Hilal goalkeepers, after Al-Ittihad became the team that kept the most clean sheets during one season in the Professional League.
The “36-year-old” Brazilian goalkeeper managed to keep his net clean in 16 games during the current season, which is the highest number recorded in the history of the Professional League.
Grohe scored 11 times, in 26 games, as it is considered the owner of the strongest line of defense in the league competition, and Al-Nasr comes second after conceding 15 goals.
Grohe is playing an important match, on Tuesday evening, when his team, Al-Ittihad, is a guest on Al-Hilal, through which the western team seeks to get close to touching the league title for the first time in 14 years, and to end the series of defeats against its rivals, Al-Hilal.
Coach Nuno Espirito Santo’s team leads the competition, five points ahead of Al-Nasr, its closest pursuer, four matches before the end.
And if Grohe succeeds in keeping his net clean against Al-Hilal, he will be able to equal a record registered in the name of Al-Ettifaq and Al-Hilal more than 30 years ago.
Al-Ettifaq in the 1986-1987 season and Al-Hilal in 1989-1990 managed to keep their nets clean in 17 matches during one season, and Grohe will be able to reach this number against Al-Hilal, on Tuesday evening.
