Borussia Dortmund, the German football club, announced the renewal of the contract of its defender Mats Hummels for an additional season, one month before the end of his current contract with the team.
Hans-Joachim Watzke, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the club, said: I am happy that Mats Hummels will remain in Borussia Dortmund for another year. He has been strongly associated with the team. Dortmund and Mats simply belong to each other.
Hummels played most of his career with Dortmund, except for 3 years he spent with Bayern between 2016 and 2019.
The defender won the German League title with Dortmund in 2011 and 2012, and is close to achieving that again this season, as the team seeks to win at home against Mainz in the last round of the German League next Saturday, in order to achieve the league title for the first time in 11 years, which is a period Bayern control.
