A armed attack against police of the municipality of celayaGuanajuato, left a balance of two officers dead and one civilian dead, according to the first reports.
The attack occurred on the road that goes from Salva Tierra to the community of tamayo cornerin the municipality of celayawhere around 4 in the afternoon of this Friday, May 26, firearm detonations were reported to 911.
According to local media, the armed attack took place in the streets of Francisco Maldonado, Emiliano Zapata and Justo Sierra.
Milenio Televisión reported that the officers were carrying out routine rounds, when armed individuals aboard a van overtook the municipal elements to hit them from the back of the vehicle, causing the driver to lose control and crash into a traffic sign.
Elements of different corporations arrived at the place, such as the National Guard and the Municipal Police, as well as agents of the Attorney General of the State of Guanajuato (FGEG) to protect the area. The injured police officers were taken to nearby hospitals.
Videos shared on social networks show the place where the attack occurred. In the images, captured by people passing through the place, you can see several police officers marking the perimeter to protect the place of the attack.
Preliminary reports detailed that the uniformed officers managed to repel the attack, for which they killed an alleged attacker, who was found meters from where the four wounded officers, one of them without vital signs, were lying on the side of the patrol car.
So far neither the National Guard, the Guanajuato Public Security Secretariat nor the Guanajuato Prosecutor’s Office have given more details about what happened.
