A truck crashed into the security barriers of the White House

A truck crashed on Monday night against one of the fences that protect the gardens of the White House in Washington D.C., According to the head of communications for the US Secret Service, Anthony Guglielmi.

Around 10:00 p.m. (local time), the vehicle drove into the security barriers of Lafayette Squareone of the gardens in front of the White House, and was detained by security agents.

The truck driver was arrested. According to the authorities, the subject could have tried to impact intentional way against security barriers.

Police in the District of Columbia deemed the truck safe, said the Secret Service, and added that the US Park Police would file charges with the support of a Secret Service investigation.

The incident did not leave any of the personnel at the president’s residence injured and, for the moment, the cause of the incident is being investigated, since it has not been reported whether it is known whether it was accidental or intentional. The roads in the area have been closed to facilitate the investigation.

In the first videos that circulated on social networks about the event, you can see how the truck driver maneuvers on the sidewalk adjacent to the White House gardens, applies strong acceleration and thus manages to get the vehicle onto the sidewalk. He finally ends up hitting the front end with the security bars.

Another video broadcast by news agency Reutersshows how security officials searched the truck after the event occurred.

The authorities closed several streets around the residence of the US president, Joe Biden, while the investigation of the event continues, although they advanced that they have not found anything dangerous in the vehicle.

Currently, the White House and its surroundings are fortified with fences that prevent access to anyone who is not authorized to approach the complex.
