The Elections Committee of the Saudi Football Association announced that the list of the current president of the Football Federation, Yasser Al-Mishal, was singled out to run for the upcoming elections, after the door for candidacy closed on Sunday, with no candidate except Al-Mishal.
Al-Mishal’s list of members of the Board of Directors included Lamia Bint Bahian for the position of Vice President, as the first Saudi woman to hold the position since the founding of the Saudi Football Association, and the membership of Khaled Al-Thubaiti, Naim Al-Bakr, Nazih Al-Nasr, Khaled Al-Muqrin, Ali Al-Shailan, Moeed Al-Shehri, Turki Al-Sultan, Abdulaziz Al-Afaleq and Abdullah Hammad.
Al-Mishal won the elections by acclamation in June 2019, and was able to achieve several achievements for Saudi football after the Saudi team topped its Asian group to reach the 2022 World Cup, which included Japan and Australia, along with China, Oman and Vietnam.
The Saudi national team also achieved a historic victory over Argentina at the start of its participation in the last World Cup, in addition to the arrival of the Saudi national team to the Tokyo Olympics after winning the AFC U-23 Cup without losing any match, and the youth team also won the Arab Championship Cup for two consecutive years 2021-2022.
His leadership career witnessed the launch of the first strategy for Saudi football, the opening of local offices for the Football Association, success in hosting the 2027 Asian Cup and the 2026 Asian Women’s Cup, the establishment of the first Saudi women’s team and the launch of the first local women’s league, and success in winning hosting the 2024 FIFA Club World Cup, in addition to Al-Mishal winning membership of the Council.
