Mahmoud Abdel Moneim (Kahraba) scored a hat-trick to lead his Al-Ahly team to a 4-0 victory over its Cameroonian host Cotton on Friday in the fifth and penultimate round of the group stage of the African Champions League.
And Al-Ahly retained some hope of reaching the quarter-finals, provided that its rival, Al-Hilal, of Sudan, stumbled or tied when it faced South Africa’s Mameloy Sundowns on Saturday, at the end of the fifth round.
Al-Ahly raised its score to seven points in third place from five matches, while Sun Downs leads the group with ten points, followed by Al-Hilal of Sudan with nine points, and Al-Qattan remains without any balance.
Kahraba put Al-Ahly ahead in the 23rd minute, after receiving a perfect cross ball from Mohamed Magdy (Qafsha), to shoot it into the left corner of Al-Qattan’s goal.
Kahraba doubled the score in the 29th minute, after a wonderful pass from Ahmed Abdel Qader to Percy Tau, who was behind the opponent’s defenses.
Kahraba strengthened Al-Ahly’s lead with the third goal in the 51st minute, after receiving a short pass from Tao, and Kahraba hit the ball directly into the left corner of the goal.
With the 54th minute, Percy Tau set out on the right side, dodged one of the defenders, then fired a ground missile shot that hit the left of the cotton goalkeeper, scoring the fourth goal for Al-Ahly.
