Jean-Michel Aulas, a member of the French Football Federation Committee, confirmed that former football legend Thierry Henry turned down the opportunity to coach the French women’s national team, following the dismissal of coach Corinne Desser.
The former striker, who is considered one of the best players in his country’s history, has not played any coaching roles since the end of the 2022 World Cup, as he was working as an assistant in the technical staff of the Belgian national team.
After Dyasser was dismissed from her position amid the boycott of the national team by some players, the French Federation is seeking to find a successor before the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, which will be held later this year.
But the new coach will not be Thierry Henry, when the former Montreal Impact coach turned down the chance to take charge and lead the team to the World Cup championship.
“I asked him personally, but the answer was not positive,” Aulas said in statements to Le Figaro newspaper.
He concluded: But the person who will take over the task will not be Thierry Henry, I think he is pursuing other projects.
