Almost a month after seeing her daughter go through three surgeries after childbirth, Cintia Dicker decided to reveal the illness that led the girl to the procedures. aurora was born with gastroschisis, a congenital gastrointestinal malformation and, according to the model, this condition [ segundo o Ministério da Saúde é quando o intestino se desenvolve completamente para fora da cavidade abdominal] was discovered at 12 weeks of gestation.
“When we learned about the existence of gastroschisis, we also discovered that, for the baby’s safety, Aurora should be born between 37 and 38 weeks, after a cesarean section”, she began, telling the drama that went on for months. And she continued: “The ideal period would be the week of Christmas, days when many are traveling, but coincidentally the dream team had found a date and everything worked out”.
Cintia Dicker also said that she and her husband Pedro Scooby were apprehensive about the diagnosis. “We didn’t know about this condition and we were very scared because we didn’t know how the surgery would be and also our daughter’s recovery. I kept looking for answers on the internet – something I don’t advise – because it just scared me more. Like every surgery, hers also had risks. In many cases, it is not possible to put the intestine in place at once, requiring more than one surgery,” he revealed in an interview with Vogue magazine.
Aurora was born on the 26th of December and, in total, spent 16 days in hospital. During the period, Cintia suffered from “baby blues” or puerperal sadness, a condition that affects women after childbirth. “There were strong emotions these days of my daughter’s hospitalization in the ICU [Unidade de Terapia Intensiva]. Due to lack of rest, I felt a lot of pain in the cesarean scar and had a small inflammation, which resulted in the need for antibiotics and some care. Fortunately, we overcame all the difficulties and being home with her is the best feeling.”
