FIFA announced on Wednesday that it had begun taking action against the Mexican Football Federation following the chants of its fans in Tuesday’s goalless match against Poland at the Qatar World Cup.

FIFA did not give details of the chants, but Mexican fans could be heard insulting Polish striker Robert Lewandowski as he took the penalty kick, which was saved by goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa in the second half.

FIFA said in a statement: The FIFA Disciplinary Committee opened proceedings against the Mexican Federation for chanting by fans during Mexico’s match against Poland in the World Cup on November 22.

FIFA had also opened disciplinary measures against Ecuador for other chanting at the World Cup opening match against Qatar on Sunday.
