O actor Johnny Depp, 59, will return to franchise “Pirates of the Caribbean” as Captain Jack Sparrow five years after the last film. He has a film test scheduled in the UK scheduled for February 2023, according to the British tabloid The Sun.

The working title of the new film in the franchise is “A Day At The Sea”. A source confirmed to the tabloid that he is resuming filming as Captain Jack Sparrow at a secret location in the UK, but the project is still in its early stages and no director has yet been announced.

The actor was fired from the “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise over allegations of domestic abuse made by his ex-wife. Amber Heard, 36, said his former Hollywood agent, in April of this year. During Depp’s defamation trial against Heard, the actor stated that he would not return to the franchise “Pirates of the Caribbean” by no deal.

“If Disney came at you with $300 million ($300 million) and a million alpacas, nothing in the world would make you go back and work with Disney on a Pirates of the Caribbean movie? Correct?” asked Ben Rottenborn, Heard’s lawyer during the trial. “That’s true,” replied the actor, in an excerpt reproduced by Variety magazine🇧🇷

Women’s charities said they were concerned to learn that Depp had been hired once again to play Captain Jack Sparrow. “When someone is accused or found guilty of domestic abuse, it is important that all employers take it seriously, and that includes employers in film and TV,” said Women’s Aid.

Fans of the actor made a petition asking for the return of the actor to the franchise. They collected over 800,000 signatures in an attempt to pressure Disney to rehire Depp.
