The French national team received a painful blow after it was confirmed that Lucas Hernandez was absent until the end of the FIFA World Cup in Qatar, after he suffered a cut in the cruciate ligament of the knee.
Hernandez suffered a cut in the cruciate ligament of his right knee nine minutes after the start of France’s opening match in the World Cup, during which it beat Australia 4-1 on Tuesday.
France coach Didier Deschamps said: “I feel, as does the whole group of players and coaching staff, great sorrow for Lucas.
He added: We lost an important element, Lucas is a fighter and I have no doubt that he will do everything in his power to return.
He pointed out: I know him well, on behalf of the group, I wish him a speedy recovery in the best possible way.
Hernandez became the second French player to be injured and excluded from the World Cup, after Karim Benzema, who was excluded from the tournament four days ago.
