The General Prosecutor of the Nation announced that due to damages caused to horses, prosecutors from the Special Group for the Fight against Animal Abuse (Gelma) presented before guarantee control judges two citizens in Bolívar and Cauca.

It should be noted that according to Law 1774 of 2016, it decrees in its article number 1 that animals as sentient beings are not things and will receive protection against suffering and intentr, mainly, the one caused directly or indirectly by humans.

“For this reason, in this law some behaviors related to the mistreatment of animals are classified as punishable, and a sanctioning procedure of a police and judicial nature is established” highlights article 1 of law 1774.

Likewise, Article 339A states that by any means or procedure where a tamed, domestic, wild vertebrate or exotic vertebrate animal is mistreated, thereby causing injuries that seriously undermine its health or physical integrity and/or death will incur a prison sentence of 12 to 36 months.

“And special disqualification from one (1) to three (3) years for the exercise of a profession, trade, trade or possession that is related to animals and a fine of five (5) to sixty (60) current legal monthly minimum wages” , indicates article 339A of law 1774.
