Italian referee Daniele Orsato was chosen to lead the opening match of the 2022 World Cup in football between host Qatar and Ecuador on Sunday at Al Bayt Stadium in the city of Al Khor, according to what the International Federation “FIFA” announced.
FIFA revealed in a statement on Friday, “At the age of forty-six, he is one of the most experienced referees in Europe, and has been supervising matches since 2010. He was a video assistant referee at the 2018 World Cup.”
Qatar begins its participation in the World Cup by virtue of hosting the finals, which are also held for the first time in the Middle East, while Ecuador is in the finals for the fourth time.
The two teams fell into a first group that includes the Netherlands, the runner-up three times, and Senegal, the African champions, who received a painful blow to their star, Sadio Mane, the second best player in the world and the best African player.
